ABOUT STEVE

Bringing Experience to Local Governance

Steve Keel has been proud to call Hopkinsville his lifelong home, and he has worked for decades to invest his time and energy back into the community that raised him. As a 20-year homeowner in Ward 10, Steve has deep roots and an even deeper commitment to the people who live there.

Steve graduated from Hopkinsville High School and has owned and operated a local small business since 2005. He launched his public service journey in 2007 when he was accepted to the Leadership Hopkinsville Program. He served as the fundraising co-chair and construction captain for Project Playground during the program, and then soon after began pouring into Hopkinsville's youth through Big Brothers/Big Sisters and serving as an assistant football coach at Hopkinsville Middle School in 2008 and 2009. .

For Steve, Hopkinsville isn’t just where he lives—it’s where he’s chosen to invest his time, leadership, and heart.

Steve's commitment to service naturally led him to broader civic leadership and local government.

From 2017 to 2020, he served on the Community & Development Services Board, helping guide growth and planning efforts that shape Hopkinsville’s future. He was first elected to City Council in 2021 and served four full years working to create actionable change for Ward 10 and Hopkinsville as a whole.

During his time on Council, Steve also served on the Future Funding Committee from 2021 to 2023, and then the Solid Waste Board and  served as the Chair of the Committee of the Whole in 2023 and 2024.

For Steve, public service isn’t about titles—it’s about advocating for his community, leading change, and helping to shape the future of Hopkinsville for the next generation.
